Lakeside Aquatic Club (LAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on bringing all levels of swimming to the area from learn-to-swim programs to national level development. LAC is one of the largest and most successful teams in the state of Texas, with over 1,100 swimmers. Our swimmers are Olympic Trials qualifiers, Paralympic Trials qualifiers, high school state champions, collegiate athletes and NCAA champions.

LAC currently operates in 5 facilities in 3 areas in North East Tarrant County and Southern Denton County: The Colony, Flower Mound, Lewisville and Keller. Three of LAC’s current facilities are school district owned and operated, two are city owned and operated and LAC has great relationships with all facilities and management. LAC’s programs span from Learn-to-Swim all the way to Masters swimming for adults. All Programs are taught by highly qualified coaches using our proven curriculum that makes transitioning from one level to another seamless and successful.

LEARN TO SWIM

LAC's Learn-to-Swim program provides a swimmer’s first exposure to organized lessons and is for all ages. Students are taught the basics to become independent in the water. LAC’s focus is making kids “water safe” and teaching the swimmers the correct technique building blocks.

STROKE SCHOOL

LAC’s Stroke School is designed to introduce the concepts of competitive swimming and teach the fundamental techniques of all four competitive swimming strokes - Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Emphasis is on mechanically sound stroke and kick techniques during a 25 yard swim. Swimmers are introduced to the basics of competitive swimming through fun intrasquad LAC meets.

COMPETITIVE TEAM

LAC's Competitive Team is the goal for the majority of our swimmers. Swimmers on the competitive team train to compete in local, regional, national, and international meets and many go on to collegiate swimming careers. The program is divided into two parts, the Senior and the Age Group programs. The Senior program is for swimmers age 14 and older, and the Age Group program is for swimmers age 13 & younger. LAC’s focus in the competitive team is for swimmers to grow their skills, prepare for high level meets, and achieve personal success.

MASTERS SWIMMING

LAC offers Masters Swimming for adult swimmers of all abilities who want to improve overall fitness, swim just for fun, develop better technique, or train for triathlons, open water swims, or pool swimming competitions.

HISTORY

LAC was founded in 1982 as a summer recreation team, formerly known as the Lewisville Aquatics Club.  Recognizing the potential of several of their swimmers, a group of dedicated parents began raising funds and made the switch to USA Swimming in the mid 1980’s.  With the money they raised, they hired one of the biggest names in swimming at that time, Jack Simon, to get the club off to the best start possible as a USA Swimming club. By 1986, LAC was already sending swimmers to both Nationals and Junior Nationals and had grown to about 150 swimmers under the direction of Head Coach Patrick Henry.

In the early 1990’s, Matt Rowe was Head Coach of LAC and continued to build on the success of the team with consistent participants in Nationals, Junior Nationals, TAGS and Olympic Trials.  Over the course of the next dozen years, the team more than doubled in size and began expanding to additional facilities. When Mike Yearwood joined LAC in 2008 as Head Coach, Lakeside Aquatic Club was serving nearly 500 swimmers, employed almost a dozen coaches, and practiced at 4 facilities in the North Texas metroplex area.

In 2011, Jason Walter was named Head Coach after leading the Age Group program to four top 6 finishes at TAGS in 3 years, finishing 5th at both short course and long course championships in 2011. Since then, the team has grown to over 1,100 swimmers and developed a world class stroke school and lesson program.  The LAC Age Group swimmers have finished in the Top 3 teams consistently at TAGS championships, and the Senior swimmers recently won 1st Place at Sectionals.

Lakeside Aquatic Club has not only grown in size but also into one of the top overall teams in the country, in 2017 LAC was awarded their first Gold Medal Status, an honor given only to the top 20 Clubs in the country each year.  LAC once again achieved Gold Medal status in 2018.  LAC sends an increasing number of swimmers to Junior Nationals and Nationals each year, and has swimmers who have continued their careers at a wide variety of colleges across the US.  LAC is excited to see where the love of swim will take our talented swimmers in the future!
