Tremendous Performance by LAC at Long Course TAGS
Bringing one of its largest teams in years to TAGS this summer, LAC proved again how it is quickly becoming a major player on the Texas swimming scene.
The team exceeded all expectations by finishing 6th out of 73 teams at the season ending long course championships in College Station.
A stellar performance by Brendan Feehery who finished first in three events, and took 2nd in another three helped him to place second overall in the boys 11 year old individual competition. Matthew Willenbring took first in the 100 breast, 2nd in the 50 breast, took third in the 200 and 400 free and in the 200 IM thus securing a fourth place overall finish in the 10 and under boys competition.
Jerik Wong took home 7 medals including a 2nd in the 50 breast, a 3rd in the 100 breast, and a 4th in the 200 breast. Carly Straight had some tremendous races and finished 2nd in the 50 free, 3rd in the 400 free and 4th in the 200 free. Alex Sellers turned in a great performance by finishing first in 2 events and Jordan Kimmey captured a 2nd in the 200fly, a 5th in the 400IM and a 7th in the 200IM.
Other multiple individual medalists were David Arredondo (4 medals), Maria Goode (3 medals), and Danielle Pawlichuk with 2 medals. Georgia Brown took 7th in the 100 back.
First time individual medalists included John King in the 100 back, Lauren Pitzer in the 100 back, Nicole Kimmey in the 200 fly, Andrew Inoue in the 100 breast and Leah Weber in the 100 breast.
Some of the team’s biggest surprises came in the relay events where many teams who were ranked lower going into finals vaulted over the competition and came away with medals and valuable team points.
The 10 and under boys team consisting of Austin Leih, Patrick Nolan, Matthew Willenbring , and John King took 2nd in the 400 free relay.
The 11/12 girls relay of Rileigh Thornton, Abby Porter, Maria Goode and Ashley Ward took 2nd in the 400 medley relay. The 200 free relay took 2nd thanks to the team of Kayla Epting, Goode, Ward and Carly Straight. The teamof Epting, Porter, Ward and Straight took home a 3rd in the 200 medley relay.
The 11/12 boys relay of Brendan Feehery, Jerik Wong, Michael Summers and Andrew Inoue took 2nd place in the 400 medley and 3rd in the 400 free relay. Feehery, Wong, Inoue and Aidan Glynn captured a 3rd in the 200 medley relay.
The 13/14 girls took a 3rd in the 800 free relay thanks to Madison Straight, Alex Sellers, Danielle Pawlichuk and Jordan Kimmey. The 400 medley team of Georgia Brown, Leah Weber, Kimmey , and Sellers took a 3rd as well.
