Lakeside Aquatic Club's training program is divided into 12 levels, so swimmers have the oppertunity to participate in a practice group that matches their peer group, stroke development and training ability.

Practice groups have training and developmental parameters put in place to help the athletes get the most out of their training. Practice group placement are determined by the coaching staff, using the practice group descriptions listed below, along with other determining factors such as training site perameters, maturity level, and one's ability to train.

A detailed breakdown of the groups follows: (there are exceptions to all of the following, and all placements are at the coaching staffs discretion).

National Training Group
This is LAC's highest level of training, and therefore the most is expected of the swimmers in this group. Swimmers in the National Training group have a dedication to training, racing, and to their team. These athletes understand goal setting and are working towards becoming national level swimmers, with the dreams of participating at the collegiate level.

Qualifications:   

  • Age 13 and over
  • Has proven to the coaching staff commitment to the sport.
  • Has achieved A standards in multiple events or is working towards these standards
  • Has demonstrated the ability and commitment  to train 6 to 11 practices a week, depending on the season. (short course or long course)
  • Ability to do a 3 hour workout, mentally and physically.
  • Ability to swim 200 yards/meters of all four strokes
  • Ability to swim 20 x 100 @ 1:15 interval
  • Ability to do 2 workouts in a day, and wake up early for the first practice.
  • Ability to listen well to the coach and apply what has been instructed.
  • Has the desire/goal to swim at the collegiate level.
                                        
    Involvement:
  • Intense level of training.
  • Morning practices required (2 to 4 times a week)
  • Attend competitions and travel to these competitions.
  • Continuation of stroke development and refinement
  • Must attend a Championship meet representing LAC

    Attendance:        
  • Being that this is the highest level, attendance is recommended at ALL practices, both morning and evening. A minimum of 5 out of 6; 8 out of 9; or 10 out of 11 is required to be in this group. (Dependent on season, high school, short course, or long course)

Senior 2 Team
This group is designed for swimmers that are striving to train at the national level, but are not ready to or able to make the commitment or requirements needed to train in the National Training Group. This program offers intense aerobic and anaerobic training. Swimmers must be committed to working hard and competing in meets.

Requirements:

  • Age 13 and over
  • Has proven to the coaching staff commitment to the sport.
  • Has achieved BB times in numerous events and is working towards A times
  • 10x100 @1:20 or 1:25
  • 10x50 @1:00 Kick

Involvement:     

  • Intense level of training
  • Attend competitions and travel to these competitions.
  • Continuation of stroke development and refinement
  • Must attend a Championship meet representing LAC

Attendance: 

  • Must be making 5 out of 6 practices in a week, and have proven their commitment while in TAGS before moving up.

Senior 3 Team
This group is designed for 13 and over swimmers that want to improve

Requirements:

  • 13 and over
  • 10x100 @ 1:30/1:40

Involvement:

  • Must show a level of commitment to the sport and want to improve and excel
  • Effort must be shown at practices and competitions
  • Focus on stroke improvements and refinement

Attendance:

  • Attendance is very important and attending 5 out of 6 practices a week is required.

Age Group 1 Team
This group is designed for

Requirements:          

  • Age 11 and Over
  • Has achieved BB standards in multiple events or is working towards these standards
  • Demonstrated the ability and commitment to train 3-4 practices a week
  • Ability to do a 2 hour workout, mentally and physically
  • Ability to swim 200 IM yards/meters
  • Ability to swim 10 x 100 Free @ 1:50 interval
  • Ability to listen well to the coach and apply what has been instructed.

    Involvement:           
  • Moderate level of training
  • Focus on stroke development and refinement
  • Must attend a Championship Meet representing LAC

Attendance:               

  • A minimum of 3 out of 5 practices a week

TAGS Team
This group is designed for the highest level of training for our top Age Group swimmers. There will be a lot expected of these swimmers in form of commitment to the team and the sport of swimming. These swimmers are working towards qualifying for the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships. These swimmers understand the importance of goal setting; short term and long term. The coaching staff will also highly influence the importance of self-discipline, time management, positive communication and teamwork.   At this level of swimming, the physical and mental development is key as to whether the swimmer will choose to move on to the next level of swimming in his/her future.   In order to have our best swimmers train together and push each other a commitment to travel from Keller or Flower Mound is a must. 

Requirements:          

  • Age 13 and under
  • Swimmer has proven to the coaching staff commitment to the sport.
  • Has achieved TAGS and/or A standards in multiple events or is working towards these standards
  • Demonstrated the ability and commitment to train 6-8 practices a week, depending on the season (Short course or Long course)
  • Ability to do a 3 hour workout, mentally and physically
  • Ability to swim 400 IM yards/meters
  • Ability to swim 10 x 100 Free @ 1:30 interval
  • Ability to Kick 5 x 100 @ 1:55 interval
  • Ability to swim 5 x 200 IM @ 3:30 interval
  • Ability to do 2 workouts in a day twice a week, and wake up early for the first practice – during summer and Christmas
  • Ability to listen well to the coach and apply what has been instructed.
  • Has the desire/goal to swim at the state and national level and move into the National Team training group when the time comes.
  • Able to use the pace clock for training purposes

Involvement:             

  • Intense level of training
  • Must travel 2 days a week during Short Course Season and 3 practices during the Long Course (summer) Season Attend competitions and travel to these competitions.
  • Continuation of stroke development and refinement
  • Must attend TAGS or Junior National meet representing LAC

Attendance:               

  • Being that this is the highest level, attendance is recommended at ALL practices, both morning and evening. A minimum of 5 out of 6; 7 out of 8; is required to be in this group (Dependent on season, Short Course, or Long Course)
  • Must travel 2 days a week during Short Course Season and 3 practices during the Long Course (summer) Season

Silver Team
This group is designed for swimmers that are striving to train at the TAGS Training level, but are not ready to or able to make the commitment or requirements needed to be in the TAGS Training Group. Also, for swimmers that want a comprehensive training program but do not want to commit to the travel or attendance requirements needed for the TAGS Training Group requirements. 

Requirements:          

  • Age 9-13
  • Has achieved BB and/or A standards in multiple events or is working towards these standards
  • Demonstrated the ability and commitment to train 3-4 practices a week
  • Ability to do a 2 hour workout, mentally and physically
  • Ability to swim 400 IM yards/meters
  • Ability to swim 10 x 100 Free @ 1:40 interval
  • Ability to Kick 5 x 100 @ 2:05 interval
  • Ability to swim 5 x 200 IM @ 4:00 interval
  • Ability to listen well to the coach and apply what has been instructed.
  • Has the desire/goal to swim at the A level meets and pursue TAGS
  • Able to use the pace clock for training purposes

Involvement:            

  • Moderate to Intense level of training
  • Focus on stroke development and refinement
  • Must attend a Championship Meet representing LAC

Attendance:               

  • A minimum of 3 out of 5 practices a week

Bronze Team
This group is designed for swimmers that are striving to train at the TAGS Training level, but are not ready to or able to make the commitment or requirements needed to be in the TAGS Training Group. Also, for swimmers that want a comprehensive training program but do not want to commit to the travel or attendance requirements needed for the TAGS Training Group requirements, but have the ability to train at a high level. This is a training group and swimmers must be committed to training and competitions representing LAC.

Requirements:         

  • Age 11 and Under
  • Has achieved BB standards in multiple events or is working towards these standards
  • Demonstrated the ability and commitment to train 3-4 practices a week
  • Ability to do a 2 hour workout, mentally and physically
  • Ability to swim 200 IM yards/meters
  • Ability to swim 10 x 100 Free @ 1:50 interval
  • Ability to Kick 5 x 100 @ 2:15 interval
  • Ability to swim 5 x 100 IM @ 2:00 interval
  • Ability to listen well to the coach and apply what has been instructed.
  • Has the desire/goal to swim at the A level meets and pursue TAGS
  • Able to use the pace clock for the following send offs - :60, :15, :30, :45, :20, :40

Involvement:           

  • Moderate level of training
  • Focus on stroke development and refinement
  • Swim multiple sessions at every B/C meet and BB if the swimmer has multiple BB times

Attendance:               

  • 90% of practices

Red Team
Technique:

    1. Has completed 50 yards of each stroke legally
    2. Can perform all turns legally
    3. Working knowledge of all stroke drills used in the age group program

Knowledge:
1.   Understands bi-lateral breathing   
Team Commitment:

    1. Attend 80% of all practices
    2. Swim in all B/C meets
    3. Competes in events of 50 yards and 100 yards
    4. Wear team cap and suit to all swim meets
    5. Respectful of parents, coaches and other swimmers

White Team
Technique:

    1. Has completed a legal 25 of each stroke
    2. Can dive off starting blocks
    3. Can perform both freestyle and backstroke flip turns

Knowledge:

    1. Can read a pace clock
    2. Can count distances in swimming sets

Team Commitment:

    1. Attend 75% of practices
    2. Swim in 2 of 3 B/C meets
    3. Wear team suit and cap to all swim meets
    4. Respectful of parents, coaches and other swimmers

Blue Team
Technique:

    1. Can complete 25 yards of each stroke
    2. Can dive in head first
    3. Can circle swim

Knowledge:

    1. Knows what the backstroke flags are used for
    2. Basic knowledge of pace clocks
    3. Knows basic stroke drills
    4. Controls emotions at practice

Team Commitment

    1. Wear team suit and cap to all swim meets
    2. Respectful of parents, coaches and other swimmers
    3. Swim 2 of 3 B/C meets

Sea Lions Team: Age 8 and under
Technique:

    1. Can complete 25 yard of freestyle
    2. Can complete 25 yards of backstroke

Team Commitment

    1. Wear team suit and cap to all swim meets
    2. Respectful of parents, coaches and other swimmers
    3. Swim in 2 of 3 B/C meets

Seals Team: Age 7 and under
Technique:

    1. Can complete 25 yards of freestyle
    2. Can complete 25 yards of Backstroke

Team Commitment:

    1. Wear team suit and cap to all swim meets
    2. Respectful of parents, coaches and other swimmers
    3. Swim in 2 of 3 B/C meets
