Dear Swimmers and Parents:
Most of you have heard by now that the Flower Mound pool is open again
and we will resume our normal Summer Schedule. I want to thank Mike
Yearwood, Shannon Gillespy and Nina Arnett for working hard to get LISD
to respond to our needs and fix the pool. As they worked on the school
district they also made contingency plans and schedule changes at the
other pools to accommodate our needs. We are also thankful that LISD was
able to correct the problems with the air conditioners so quickly. We
expect that the Flower Mound pool to be fully operational for the rest
of the season.
With the growth of our team and the availability of five great
facilities, LAC is learning to utilize our many resources (coaches and
pools) to keep our swimmers in the water. We have learned the benefits
several times in the past few months. The Swine Flu outbreak shut most
teams down in North Texas but we were able to use TWU and Keller for
practice. TWU had problems with chemicals this week and the Denton
swimmers were directed to The Colony and Keller. We have had swim meets
shut one pool down but work outs were moved to other facilities and our
swimmers enjoyed training together. There is no other team in North
Texas that can offer this kind of flexibility. And with any luck we will
have access to the newest and nicest pool in the state within two years
right here in Flower Mound.
I heard from many parents that there are concerns that LAC would soon
stop utilizing the Flower Mound pool. Our team cannot exist without that
pool. Our team is so large that we are overflowing as it is. I expect
the coaches to utilize all five pools in a similar fashion as they did
last year and the schedules for most groups should be very similar. We
hope to have the schedule for next season published by the end of next
month.
I understand that there is a pool that is most convenient for each of
us. But I hope the last few months have taught us that we are one team
with five pools. Our coaches are going to utilize all of them to best
serve all of our swimmers. Be assured that the coaches and board are
working hard to make sure we offer the best training and program for
everyone and over time we will grow to be the best team in Texas.
