LAC was founded in 1982 as a summer recreation team, formerly known as the Lewisville Aquatics Club. Recognizing the potential of several of their swimmers, a group of dedicated parents began raising funds and made the switch to USA Swimming in the mid ‘80’s. With the money they raised, they hired one of the biggest names in swimming, Jack Simon, to get the club off to the best start possible as a USA club.
By 1986, LAC was already sending swimmers to both Nationals and Junior Nationals and had grown to about 150 swimmers under the direction of Patrick Henry.
In the early ‘90’s, Matt Rowe was Head Coach of LAC and continued to build on the success of the team with consistent participants in Nationals, Junior Nationals, TAGS and Olympic Trials. Over the course of the next dozen years, the team more than doubled in size and began expanding to additional facilities.
By the time Mike Yearwood joined LAC in 2008 as Head Coach, Lakeside Aquatics Club was serving nearly 600 swimmers, employed more than a dozen coaches, and practices at 5 facilities in the north metroplex area.
