ONE TEAM  ONE VISION  ONE GOAL

Mission Statement:

The focus of the LAC Junior Swim League (JSL) is to enhance the racing opportunities and experience of members at the entry level of our competitive program.  The JSL is to give our athletes in our bronze and silver program the opportunity to race in a dual meet format in meets that are quick and fun.

JSL Overview

The LAC Junior Swim League (JSL) will be like high school and college swimming for our athletes entering our competitive program.  The current structure of meets for all members in North Texas Swimming LSC is to compete on a monthly basis.  Competing once a month allows swimmers to train between meets in order to advance their racing.  LAC believes racing events 1-2 months apart allows the swimmer to train and make stroke changes that will positively affect a swimmers performance.  However, our coaching staff believes newer novice swimmers need more racing earlier in their career.

The LAC JSL will allow our Bronze and Silver swimmers to compete on 2-3 times a month during the short course season.  Bronze and Silver swimmers are learning how to both race in meets and train in practice.  Both these skills are needed for long term development of all swimmers.  Our coaching staff believes learning how to race needs to be done in a meet environment.  Therefore, LAC is modeling our Junior Swim League after the high school dual meets.  Just like in high school dual meets, our Bronze and Silver swimmers will compete in meets that are not USA Swimming sanctioned meets.  Swimmer's times will NOT be put in the SWIMS database.  Instead, swimmers will focus on learning how to race in both individual and relay events.  The JSL meets will allow our swimmers to compete 4-5 times prior to a USA Swimming sanctioned meet.  Just has in high school swimming, each swimmer will compete in meets that are USA Swimming Sanctioned meets (times go into the SWIMS Database) as well as meets that are non-sanctioned meets.

The meet structure of the JSL meets will be modeled after college and high school dual meets.  Each meet should last around 1.5 hours, including warm-up.  This should help families new to swimming have short and fun meets during the season, while also providing opportunities to compete in LAC hosted USA Swim sanctioned meets.  Our USA Swim sanctioned meets usually take part on a Saturday and Sunday and take between 4-5 hours to complete.  These JSL meets will be held in locations that are close to each athletes home pool, so families don't have to travel too far for meets.

Our coaching staff believes these JSL meets will be a fun and positive environment to help foster the love of swimming and racing for our younger athletes.  These added race opportunities will allow swimmers to improve faster.

JSL Information

The LAC JSL will consists of swimmers from the Bronze and Silver groups.  Bronze 1 and 2 swimmers will only compete in JSL meets, instead of monthly USA Swimming Sanctioned meets.  The Bronze swimmers will compete in specific USA Swimming sanctioned meets during the season, but the focus will be on JSL swim meets during the short course season.

Silver 1 and 2 swimmers will have a choice to compete in both the JSL and monthly USA Swimming sanctioned meets.  Our coaching staff would like Silver swimmers to compete in at least one JSL meet a month and a USA Swimming meet every other month.  The Silver 1 and 2 coaches will go over which meets each swimmer needs to take part in at the beginning of the season so parents can plan their schedule for the season.

Meet Format

Our swimmers will compete in a dual meet format in a 6 or 8 lane pool at one of our four sites (Northwest, Keller, Flower Mound and the Colony).  Swimmers will be timed using stop watches and not an electronic timing system.  Our swimmers will be divided up into 2 different teams, Grey Team (Greyhounds) and Red Team (Red Raiders) as they enter the competitive program.  Each swimmer will stay on their respective team during their career on LAC, no team changes will be made.  Each family will be notified which team their swimmer will be on after the 2nd week of practice.

Teams will have assigned lanes at every meet.  For example, the Grey Team would have all odd lanes - lanes 1, 3, 5, 7 and the Red Team would have the even lanes - lanes 2, 4, 6, 8.

The JSL meets will be run with a 20 minute warm-up before each meet.  Each meet will consist of 2 relays and events that are 50s and 100s.

Order of events

  • 200 Medley Relay (50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle)
  • 100 FR
  • 50 BR
  • 50 BK
  • 50 Fly
  • 50 Fr
  • 100 IM (25 Butterfly, 25 Backstroke, 25 Breaststroke, 25 Freestyle)
  • 200 FR Relay

Each swimmer will be able to compete in either 1 relay and 3 individual events or 2 relays and 2 individual events.  Relays will be picked by the coaching staff.  A relays will consist on the fastest swimmers and the B and C relays will be made up of all other swimmers; so every swimmer gets an opportunity to race in a relay.

Awards

Heat winner awards will be given to individual swimmers.  Top 3 relays will receive an award.  After the award winners receive their award, they will be ushered to the podium area for a picture that will be posted on LAC Social Media!

Cost

Each meet will cost $20 per swimmer.

Competition Locations

Our locations will be divided up in 2 areas - East and West Divisions.  Flower Mound and The Colony will be in the East Division.  Flower Mound and The Colony will swim their meets against each other at either facility.  Keller and Northwest will be in the West Division (will swim their meets against each other at either facility).
