ONE TEAM  ONE VISION  ONE GOAL

Welcome to LAC Stroke Team!

All swimmers wishing to join the Stroke School must go through a tryout/placement evaluation.  The coaching staff determines the best placement for the swimmer based on their observations at the tryout.

LAC Stroke School is within the Development segment of LAC’s three-tiered swimming program. The purpose of the LAC Stroke School is to improve the fundamental techniques of all four competitive swimming strokes in preparation for LAC’s competitive program. Stroke School requires a tryout and consists of two training groups.

RED GROUP

  • Red 1  -   8 and under
  • Red 2   -  9-11*

This is the first level of Stroke School. Many of these swimmers have graduated from our Learn-To-Swim Program, while others have been placed in from tryouts. Swimmers in this group can swim freestyle with proper side breathing and swim backstroke with good body roll and have a basic understanding of breaststroke and butterfly. . Dives off the block are introduced in this level of Stroke School, as well as a proper flip turn.

In order to progress to the Black group, the swimmer must be able to:

  • Do all of the freestyle and backstroke drills correctly
  • Do a freestyle flip turn
  • Swim a legal 25 breaststroke or 25 butterfly

BLACK GROUP

  • Black 1   -  9 and under
  • Black 2   -  10-12*

Swimmers in this group will be focusing on perfecting the breaststroke and butterfly strokes. They will be introduced to performing a backstroke flip turn as well as reading the pace clock. The swimmer will start swimming longer freestyle and backstroke swims to build endurance. The swimmer will need to be able to legally swim all four competitive strokes as well as perform a backstroke flip turn in order to be considered for the competitive team (Bronze group). In addition, the following test sets need to be accomplished:

  • 6X50's free on 1:30
  • Legal 100 IM (complete each lap legally - strokes, turns and finishes)

Swimmers in Red/Black compete in fun speed & skill meets approximately monthly.  This is a fun, low-stress way for swimmers and parents to be introduced to the swim meet format, as swimmers begin to apply their technical training to a competitive environment.
