Jason Walter Head Coach

Jason Walter was named Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Head Coach in February of 2011 after a successful four-year tenure as LAC's Head Age Group Coach, during which he led the team to consecutive Top 6 finishes at TAGS. Since joining LAC in the spring of 2007, Coach Jason has played a vital role in the club's continued growth and success. Under his leadership, LAC has earned USA Swimming's Gold Medal Club Excellence recognition six times (2017, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and was recognized as a USA Swimming Podium Club from 2022 through 2025. The club has tripled in size during his tenure and is now considered one of the premier Age Group and Senior Programs in Texas.  

Currently coaching the National group at LAC’s Keller facility, Coach Jason has guided the team to unprecedented success at the local, state, and national levels. He has coached Olympic Trials qualifiers, USA Swimming National Team and National Junior Team members, Junior National Champions, Texas High School State Champions, and numerous athletes with USA Swimming National Top 10 rankings. His swimmers have achieved multiple team, LSC, state, Junior National, and National Age Group records—including multiple individual and relay marks. Over 75 of his athletes have continued on to compete at the collegiate level.  

Coach Jason’s leadership has also been recognized on the national stage. He was named Head Coach of the Men’s Team at the 2023 National Junior Team Camp, Assistant Coach for Team USA at the 2023 Junior World Championships, and Head Coach of the Men’s Team for Team USA at the 2025 Junior Pan Pacific Championships—a testament to his impact on USA Swimming’s junior development pipeline.  

With over 30 years of experience in the sport as both a coach and an athlete, Coach Jason’s own swimming accomplishments include being a High School State Champion and Junior Nationals qualifier. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. He currently resides in Argyle with his wife Darcy and their three children: Anna, Colin, and Nora.  

 

Thomas Cyprus Assoc Head Coach - Site Sup. Justin

A five-time Age Group Coach of the Year, Thomas (TomCyprus brings over 29 years of club coaching experience and competitive excellence to LAC.  He is the National Team coach Site Supervisor at the Northwest ISD Aquatic Center - Justin and is the Associate Head Coach for Lakeside Aquatic Club.

Prior to LAC, Tom was Head Coach at Charger Aquatics in New Mexico for 12 years where he led the team to be the first in New Mexico to achieve a Virtual Club Championship in the top 100 and also have multiple seasons as a USA Swimming Club Excellence Team. 

Prior to his tenure at Charger Aquatics, Tom was with City of Plano Swimmers, Inc. (COPS), where he spent one year as an assistant coach and 10 years as Head Age Group Coach. Tom is a Level-5 ASCA certified coach who has produced seven National Champions and over 200 Top-16/Top 10-time qualifiers. Prior to working with COPS, Tom also coached with USA teams in Ft. Worth, El Paso, and Austin. 

Tom began his swimming career at the age of 5 in El Paso, TX, and has now been involved with the sport for over 50 years.  His first coaching job was at the age of 16 during the summer of 1982.  He is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, and enjoys all outdoor sports, especially swimming and golfTom also taught high school math for seven years prior to making club swimming his full-time occupation.

He is married to Tawni Cyprus and has two daughters, Laurel and Chandler, and two grand kids.

John Butcher Site Supervisor

Coach John began his coaching career in Alaska at 19 with his hometown club, Midnight Sun Swim Team, culminating with an interim Head Coach role and Head Coach for 3 local High School teams.

After moving to New Mexico to pursue a Masters degree, John coached with the University of New Mexico, Lobo Aquatics, as well as a stint in Seattle with Olympic Cascade Aquatics.

Most recently, John spent the last 12 years in New Mexico coaching Charger Aquatics, with the last 5 years as Head Coach and Director of Competitive Swimming. While at Charger Aquatics, John coached State Record Holders, National Top 10 ranked swimmers, and qualifiers for US Open, Open Water Nationals, Junior Nationals, and Sectionals. John has coached swimmers that have been selected to attend the Western Zone Select Camp, National Diversity Select Camp, and National Open Water Select Camp. 

John graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA in History in 2009, and a Masters in Sport Administration from the University of New Mexico in 2011 and is an American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level-4 Coach.

John and his wife Heather DiLuzio have three children; Katie, Maggie, and Danny.

Bill Christensen Site Supervisor - Keller

 

Bill Christensen joined LAC in the spring of 2018, leading senior-level practice groups at Keller.  He brings to LAC over 30 years of coaching success at all levels of swimming.

Most recently, Bill was at NTN (North Texas Nadadores) where he was Head Coach for 15 years. Coach Bill’s swimmers have been Junior National champions, Senior National finalists, and 5 Junior National team members, and over 50 of his swimmers have achieved Top 16 or better national rankings in a variety of events.

Bill’s personal coaching accolades include being named National Junior Team Camp Assistant Coach twice, and also twice awarded North Texas Coach of the Year, and was awarded the USA Swimming Coach of Excellence award in 2014.

Coach Bill was a former, average swimmer in Boise, Idaho, and the University of Oregon.  He is married with one son, two granddaughters, and 12 chickens that produce farm-fresh eggs! 

 
Steve Mateer Coach Development Coordinator

Steve Mateer joined LAC in the fall of 2013, running the Age Group program in The Colony.  He brings to LAC over 30 years of coaching success at all levels of swimming.

Most recently, Steve was at COPS (City of Plano Swimmers) where he served in a variety of roles for 20 years including Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach.  As Head Age Group Coach, his swimmers won TAGS four times.  Coach Steve’s swimmers have been Junior National champions, Senior National finalists, and over 60 of his swimmers have achieved Top 16 or better national rankings in a variety of events.


Steve’s personal coaching accolades include being named Texas Age Group Coach twice, North Texas Age Group Coach of the Year four times, and also awarded Texas Senior Coach of the Year, USA Swimming Coach of Excellence (3 times) and coaching for USA at the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific meet in Hawaii.


Raised by competitive swimmers, Steve began competitive swimming at six, and continued on through his years at the University of Missouri. 

Sarah Crouch Director Of Swim School

Coach Sarah grew up swimming in Tulsa, Oklahoma for local YMCA and summer league teams. She represented her high school team (100 fly, 200 IM) and then went on to swim for Hendrix College (200 Fly, 400 IM) one term before transferring to the University of Dallas.

In 1997, Sarah began coaching in North Texas and she has coached for Irving Swimmers, NTAC, NTN. She began to focus on developing swimmers early in her coaching career and built a successful Swim School for NTN.

Sarah joined LAC in 2010 to build and refine a developmental program to feed their successful club program. She is responsible for finding and training talented coaches and creating a large and successful swim school. Sarah is passionate about teaching children to swim and, as a homeschool mother of three, rates water safety at the highest level of importance.

Coach Sarah holds a degree in Classics from the University of Dallas.

 

Dan Balint National Coach - Keller

 

Most recently, Coach Dan was at NTN (North Texas Nadadores) for more than 13 years. He coached alongside Bill Christensen and Audrey Cormack during his tenure at NTN. For the past five years, he was the National Level Coach.

Coach Dan has mentored Olympic Trial qualifiers, a Junior Pan Pacific Champion, Senior National Champions, Junior National Champions, and multiple swimmers who have achieved Top 16 or better National Rankings. He also has had more than 20 college signings in the past five years.

He has been married to his wife Robin for 32 years. They have three children who also swam for NTN,  before going off to college and to swim for their universities. His son Daniel, age 23, a former NCAA Champion with Queen's University, University of Charlotte, is currently serving in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Sydney, age 22, is a Senior swimmer at the University of Indianapolis. Christian, age 20, is a Sophomore at Carson Newman University, swimming for the Eagles.

Jeffrey Klotz Senior Assistant Coach - Flower Mound

Coach Jeff is excited to join LAC after spending the last 14 years of his career with Rose Bowl Aquatics in Pasadena California. While with the Rose Bowl Jeff coached many age group top 10 swimmers, Futures finalists, Junior National winners, and National finalists (he admittedly got lucky with one of those as the head coach’s son was a pretty good swimmer).

Jeff has been coaching for almost 30 years, which continues to surprise him, as he is fairly sure he isn’t that old. He is an ASCA level 4 coach. During his career he has helped bring two smaller clubs into the top 70 nationally, helped his teams win Sectionals and Junior Nationals, had more than 25 swimmers on the top 10 list, and most importantly helped young swimmers learn more about who they are and how they work.

While growing up in England, Jeff’s parents forced him to swim, which he did not enjoy at all. His family moved to California and then to New York, where he swam with Steve Lochte and it was there that he grew to love the sport and all it had to offer. Coach Jeff ended up at the University of Michigan and studied molecular genetics and literature, has done research with Astra and taught math. In his spare time he loves snowboarding and wandering in the mountains.

Chris Baker Senior Assistant Coach - Keller

In 2006, Chris began his swim coaching career in Albuquerque, NM, as the Head Coach of the Sandia Heights Swim Team. In 2008, he became an Age Group Coach for Duke City Aquatics. During his time in New Mexico as a coach for Duke City Aquatics and Charger Aquatics, he became the Senior Coach and Head Coach for the satellite club program, and the Head Coach of the Sandia High School Swimming & Diving Team. As Head Coach, Chris consistently coached qualifiers for NMS State Championships, NMHS State Championships, Age Group Zones, Senior Zones, Sectionals, and  NMS State and NMHS State record holders, and National Top 10 ranked swimmers. He also coached a qualifier for Junior Nationals, Nationals, and Olympic Trials, who became a Tokyo 2020/2021 Olympian for the Czech Republic.

In 2017, Chris was a swim coach and camp counselor at the University of Notre Dame Swim Camp, and moved to Indiana to become the Assistant Coach at Butler University. He coached Big East Conference Championship qualifiers, and school record holders. He also became the Lead Coach of Voyager 2 for Carmel Swim Club. During his time in Indiana, Chris became a full-time staff member, the Lead Coach of Voyager 1, and a Senior 2 Assistant Coach for Carmel Swim Club. He coached qualifiers for Indiana Divisional Championships and Indiana Age Group State Championships. He was also an Assistant Coach for the Carmel High School Swim Team.

Chris graduated from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor's degree in English and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a master's degree in Special Education. Chris served on the NMS Board of Directors as the Senior Chair in 2017 and Age Group Vice Co-Chair in 2023, along with being voted Age Group Coach of the Year in 2023. When not coaching, Chris enjoys spending time with family and friends, training his dog Ben, exercising, reading, and writing. Before moving to Indiana in 2017, Chris successfully spearheaded renaming the pool located on Sandia High Schools campus to Betsy Patterson Swimming Pool in memory of his former swim coach and mentor.

John McClure Senior Assistant Coach - The Colony

Coach John comes is a native of Mansfield, TX, where he started swimming when he was 6 years old. He competed with Mansfield Aquatic Club, Mansfield High School, and Texas A&M University, where he served as the volunteer Assistant Coach in 2014. John has coached at every level of swimming, from lessons to club to NCAA. He started coaching a non-competitive group at the age of 16, and most recently, he was the National Prep coach at Dad’s Club Swim Team in Houston, TX. John has coached several Sectional, Junior National, and National qualifiers, National Age Group Top 10 swimmers, and one Olympic Trials qualifier.

Donovan Pope Site Head Age Group Coach - Keller
 
Coach Donovan learned to swim at 6 years old. He began swimming competitively at 8 and then competed for 13 years in Hawaii and Virginia. During the last four years of his competitive swimming, he competed in Freestyle and Backstroke with Old Dominion University's Varsity team in Norfolk, Virginia. Donovan was named Team Captain for both his Junior and Senior years. He graduated from ODU with a degree in Park, Recreation, and Tourism Studies, with a concentration in Park and Recreation Management.
 
Donovan also coached Special Olympics Athletes for four years while at ODU, mentoring Junior Guards during the summers since 2013, as well as leading Youth Recreation programs at the local elementary school in Norfolk. He was also a Professional Beach Lifeguard from 2013-2018. He competed at SALA Regionals and USLA Nationals from 2015- 2018, and also the Redbull Surf-Rescue competition in 2018.
 
When he's not at the pool, Coach Donovan enjoys surfing, working out, video games, and camping.
 
Sue Xu Site Head Age Group Coach - The Colony
 
Coach Sue started swimming as a young 5-year-old, where her passion and love for the sport kept her competing for the next 20 years. Her swimming highlights include a 2004 Olympic Silver Medal in the 4x200 Freestyle Relay, a Gold Medal and World Record at the 2002 World Championships in the 4x200 Freestyle Relay, and 8 Gold Medals at the Asian Games.
Sue has a Bachelors degree in International Financial Trade and a Masters's degree in Sports Training. Since 2012, she has been coaching 18-22-year-old swimmers at the collegiate level in China.
When she's not at the pool coaching LAC athletes, she's working on improving her running (and even completing a half marathon) or cultivating her love for cooking by attempting a new recipe.
Jesica Basurto-Herrera Site Head Age Group Coach - Justin

 

Coach Jesica is from Ames, Iowa, but was 4 years old when her family moved to Mexico (Guadalajara) which is where she grew up. She began swimming competitively for a club called Acalli at 9 years old and represented her state Jalisco, in Regionals and Nationals at 11 years old. Her events were 50 free, 800 free, 200 fly, 100 back, and 400 IM. Jesica enjoyed competing in states, regionals, and Nationals, but her favorite was representing the Mexican National Team at the Central American and Caribbean Games for a relay 4x50. 

Coach Jesica continued training in college and that's where she first started coaching. She coached different ages, but her passion was coaching kids that didn't think of swimming as a competitive sport. She married her husband and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where they lived for almost 15 years. During her time in Ann Arbor, she had the opportunity to coach swimmers at a YMCA swim team. 

Growing up, she was always near the water (Ocean, lakes, pool), so she loves water. Besides swimming at "the pool" Jesica also enjoy "open water" or swimming in the ocean. When visiting Mexico, she tries to compete in an Ocean Man or swim 2K every morning just for the feeling of it.

Jesica currently lives in Fort Worth/Haslet with her husband Alex and their two kids Daniela and Diego, Diego is a LAC swimmer and loves the sport as well!

Bailey Chryst Developmental Supervisor - Keller

Coach Bailey grew up with a love for swimming and has turned that passion into a fulfilling coaching career. With years of experience both in and out of the water, she’s committed to helping swimmers grow in skill and confidence. Outside the pool, Coach Bailey enjoys traveling, crocheting, and trying new restaurants!

Chelsie Orr Developmental Supervisor - Flower Mound

Coach Chelsie grew up swimming in Fair Oaks, CA where she also developed a love for coaching at the age of 16. After 12 seasons with that team she and her family moved to Oregon where she was the Head Coach for St Helens High School for 6 years. During that time she was Coach of the Year twice, got the district to create the first middle school swim team in Oregon, and created and ran two summer youth swim camps to bring attention to competitive swimming. She is ASCA level 5 certified and loves to grow and learn as a coach. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from California State University, Sacramento. Coach Chelsie and her husband Tim have two daughters, Gracie and Charlotte.

Julie Wardlaw Developmental Supervisor - Justin

Coach Julie grew up swimming in Baton Rouge, competing through high school, and developing a lifelong passion for the sport. With years of experience both in and out of the water, she loves helping swimmers gain confidence while keeping lessons fun and engaging. When she’s not at the pool, you can find her traveling to new places, painting, trying out new recipes, or attempting (and sometimes failing) a new DIY project. 

Andrew Warwick Coach - Flower Mound

Coach Andrew was originally born in California and moved to Keller Texas when he was 9. He did not learn how to swim until moving to Texas, which didn’t exactly help him as he used to live near a beach. As soon as he learned to swim, he joined a local summer League team, the Heritage Hurricanes, and fell in love with the sport. He would go on to swim at the Varsity level for Timber Creek Highschool and coached the Heritage Hurricanes during the summer. A few years after graduation and after some failed attempts to convince himself to go to College for Computer Science, he came back to the sport. Before becoming a coach at LAC, Andrew coached for NTN, originally under Bill Christensen and later Audrey Cormack for almost 6 years.

Coach Tracey has been swimming or involved with swimming since she swam for her first summer league team in Austin at the age of 5.  She fell in love with the sport and began swimming year-round at Great Hills Swim Team in Austin when she was in 3rd grade.  Her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia when she was in 5th grade, and she continued swimming year-round at Dynamo Swim Club through 2004 when she graduated high school.  She also swam with her high school team, was captain of the team her senior year, and went to State all 4 years in the 200 free and 100 back.  In the summers (in between doubles practices), she taught swim lessons, coached stroke clinics, coached summer league swim teams, and refereed summer league swim meets.  She moved back to Texas in order to attend Texas A&M University where she graduated with a B.A. in Political Science.  After graduation, she earned her M.Ed. from Texas A&M and taught Social Studies at Haltom High School until she decided to stay home with her kids.  She also has a PhD in Education Politics from UTA that she hopes to put to use once her kids are older.  

 
When she is not coaching, Tracey is the PTA President for her son's school and creates the school's yearbook.  She also loves to read and has a book blog.  She is married with 2 boys (William and Daniel), and travels with them around the country as much as possible! 
 
Jane Loomis Age Group Coach - The Colony

Coach Jane Loomis was a varsity swimmer at Grapevine & Northwest High Schools. She also swam in USA Swim programs (MCST/GCAT/MARS). She attended Texas A&M University, where she graduated as an International Studies/German major. She began teaching swim lessons for GCISD/HEB-ISD in high school, and in College assisted local Bryan/College Station USA Swimming & TAAF Summer League teams, and lifeguarded at Texas A&M Natatorium. She has over 23 years in aquatics, specializing in swim lessons for the past 15 years in Denton County, servicing about 700-800 swimmers each year. Currently, she is a teacher and high school swim coach for Plano ISD, but before teaching, she worked as a public servant in the federal government for over 11 years specializing in Immigration. She has 3 kids -Marshall, Chloe, and Noah and her husband of 21 years, Chris!

Judith Steiner Age Group Coach - The Colony

Before joining Lakeside Aquatics, Judy started the USA swim team at the Jim Montgomery Swim School while continuing to coach their developmental swim program. Previously, Judy coached the Dallas Mustang for four years, focusing on developing young swimmers and instilling a love for the sport. Before the Mustangs, she coached at The Cooper Aerobics Center swim program for one summer season.

Judy began swimming competitively at the age of 7 in Chicago and continued throughout college, where she served as Captain of the University of Illinois Champaign Women’s Swim Team. Her first coaching experience was during college at her summer age group team. She returned to coaching once her now-grown children started high school. Before resuming her coaching career, Judy spent 20 years as a technology salesperson for several companies, including Microsoft. She earned a Masters in Liberal Studies from SMU in May 2011 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Judy finds coaching to be extremely rewarding and believes she gains as much from working with her swimmers as they do from her.

 
Erin Farlow Age Group Coach - Flower Mound

Coach Erin Farlow comes from COR with a strong swimming background in North Texas.  She swam with Texas Ford Aquatics from 2010 to 2020 and competed at the UIL 5A State championships for both Prosper High School and Rock Hill High School. Erin began coaching at Swim America where she developed her own understanding for how kids process swim skills and develop proper technique. She continued to coach while completing her degree from Texas Woman’s University in Political Science.  

  

Erin has spent the last few years coaching pre-competitive, developmental, and age groups, focusing on installing proper technique while having fun. She is a firm believer in building up swimmers as young adults by preparing them with transferable skills to confidently pursue any path they choose to take. Erin's focus is on developing swimmers’ technique, performance pride, and a healthy mindset towards work ethic and competition. She hopes that each swimmer leaves her practices feeling that they’ve accomplished something. 

Earl Medina Age Group Coach - Flower Mound
Coach Earl joined LAC in August 2025 after coaching for BTA since late 2021 where he was working with the team’s Tidal Wave and Orange groups. Swimming has been a part of his life since he started as an age grouper back in Manila (Philippines) at the age of 10 years old. Aside from being a bemedaled varsity member during his high school and collegiate days, he was also selected to be the Team Captain during his senior years both in high school and college. After graduating college, he pursued his love for the sport by making the training team of the Philippine National Water Polo team and participating in age-group triathlon events which he continues to do at present.  
He is a USA Swimming certified coach and was the Stroke Development Program coach at the YMCA Lake Houston for all groups (i.e., Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) prior to the center’s closure due to Harvey and then again, prior to the start of the pandemic. In between, he took a coaching position with ESA where he worked with various age group levels.  Coach Earl believes that it is important for swimmers at a young age to learn how to be more efficient in the water by teaching proper stroke technique and developing good habits while ensuring kids have fun at the same time.

Jasmine Haas, CMPC Director of Mental Performance

Jasmine is originally from Morgantown, WV, where she also first began her career working with athletes. She graduated from West Virginia University in 2017 with a degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Athletic Coaching Education. She then moved to Ithaca, NY, where she obtained a master's degree in Exercise Science and Sport Psychology. During her time at Ithaca, Jasmine also worked as a mental training coach for the Ithaca College swimming and diving team and led a research study on influential coaching in swimming. Upon graduation, she spent a year working with tactical athletes in Killeen, TX, where she had the opportunity to coach swimmers competing in the Army Warrior Games. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and active member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. 

 

David Henson Senior/Age Group Coach - Justin
Coach DJ grew up in North Texas, where he began swimming with MARS at the age of 12. He competed for Juan Seguin High School, earning multiple district championships, breaking school records, and finishing as a State Finalist in the 500 Freestyle his senior year. That same year, he was named his school’s Male Athlete of the Year before continuing his swimming career at Oklahoma Baptist University under Hall of Fame coach Sam Freas.

DJ began coaching in 2019 locally in the North Texas area, where he worked with athletes ranging from 10 & Unders to Masters swimmers. In 2022, he became the Varsity Head Coach at The Oakridge School, where he led upper school swimmers through both training and competition. Over the past six years, DJ has coached athletes across all levels of the sport, developing swimmers through technical instruction, mentorship, and a focus on long-term growth.

Coach DJ believes swimming should be an outlet from the stressors of the world, giving athletes a space where their only concern is their next stroke. His goal is to help swimmers grow in both skill and confidence while fostering a lifelong love for the sport.

When not on the pool deck, DJ enjoys graphic design, experimenting in the kitchen, and playing video games.

Michelle Johnson Director of Operations

Michelle moved to Keller in 2019, from the greater Houston area, where she spent a couple of years as the Swim Team Administrator for the South Shore Sails Swim Team. She was born and raised in Denmark, but moved to the US in 2006 after meeting her husband in Uganda. Michelle has a degree in Human Resource Management from Texas A&M and an MBA from Texas A&M International.

She lives with her husband Ben and her daughters Bella and Kaja. Michelle enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
